Awful Fate Befalls Young Girl

Yesterday confirmed the worst fears of Mr J.W. Simmonds of Kibworth, that his daughter was indeed dead, on the discovery of her hat and cloak in woodland close to the Simmonds residence.

Lettice Simmonds, aged 15, disappeared two nights ago. On being interviewed her two older brothers fell to agonized weeping and Mr Simmonds looked careworn. ‘What will we do without her?’ he said.

Concerning certain remarks by some older Kibworth residents regarding a supposed fairy curse that claims young girls every hundred years, Mr Simmonds had this to say:

‘Lettice was a shy girl, always modest in dress and manner, who wanted nothing more than to serve her father and brothers, as her mother had died when she was young. Earthly evil took my daughter, not faery.’
